RAF&DFSA FIRE-FIGHTERS EULOGY

Fire-fighter’s who serve and have served the crown.

Have sat in hostile foreign places,

with tired, lined, black sooty faces,

often wet with tears or sweat,

reeling from the violent forces they have met.

With flame and smoke they are greeted,

with courage and determination it has been defeated.

No guns required for the ’Shout’,

just hose and water for the rout

----------

For gain or glory is not their story

and they have often suffered loss.

For some have carried injured on their back

and stood over the graves of those not coming back

----------

Lead us from death to Life, from falsehood to Truth.
Lead us from despair to Hope, from fear to Trust.
Lead us from hate to Love, from war to Peace.
Let Peace fill our hearts, our world, our universe.

----------

So bury or burn our bones

Inscribe some words upon our stones.

----------

Maybe utter a little sigh

But do not grieve for us when we die.

----------

For we have done our earthly fight

So release us on our heavenly flight.

----------

So may God, what ever we conceive him to be

Look after ours souls, friends and family.

This was created for a book of remembrance for the RAF & Defence Fire Service Association

and is a combination of my own poetry a couple of lines from a poem by Mick Goupillot called

‘A Fire-fighter.’ Also a prayer from Satish Kumar, who was a Jain monk.

Steve Harrison January 2008

From:

Dave Kirk (message picked up on web site)

Colin Cratchley (Mem No 325)

As his neighbour for may years, I'm saddened to advise you of Colin's death last May. His Flashpoint arrived today, so I hope this message will reach his ex colleagues and friends.

Colin was my neighbour since we moved here in 1994 and we always got on well, never a cross word in fact. he was a keen golfer and sometime Captain of 'Praa Sands Golf Club' . He became quite ill on a golfing holiday in France. He returned, but died within the week at Treliske Hospital, Truro.
His ashes were interred, with his last wife, Celia, at Germoe Church.

The above may be of interest to any who knew or served with him.

Best regards to you all.

Chris Y.

For you chaps that were not able to make it to Johns celebration of life after the funeral please raise a glass with me, "as the bar is now closed and time to go to bed"

RIP Dad

Kindest regards

David Hanley (eldest son of John J Hanley)

I Have just heard from Ron Brown that EX WO "Smoky" Fairhurst passed away last week. Sadly, I have no details of funeral arrangements etc.

Smoky was a much liked and well respected Fireman - truly one of the old school. Many of us had reasons to be grateful to him. He was a flamboyant character with a tremendous sense of humour. I for one will miss those "mutton chops" at the reunions.
