1.       Mk 5A Crash (22 AG 49): The fireman that spent 56 days in the Marine Barracks in Cyprus for the MK5A crash was not driving it. He was in the Airmen’s Mess storeroom at the time and the Head Cook was driving it. But one month after coming out of detention he was promoted to Corporal, so it all ended well!

The above is a picture of RAF Stanley sent in by Ray Fearnley.  It was taken from a C130, you can just see the Fire Section and a MK9 in the bottom left of the picture.

 

The following pics are of the initial deployment in 1982 led by WO Wilf Longmire kindly sent by Richard Lawrence

When we were called to Brize and mustered, no-one really knew what was what, we spent approx. a week there then 10 days at St Mawgan then finally the train to Southanpton. A month later we arrived At Falklands, this is Southampton Docks, In picture; SAC Davis, SAC Inglis, SAC Pittock, CPL Mullen, SAC Effer

This most of the crew that were detached to the Falklands with Wilf in May/June 82.
